BIOGRAPHY

self-made player who, after leaving NCAA D3, needed to go around until playing his last season with Maia in the Portuguese 1st League. In his beginnings, he was featured over Ronald March (Chorale de Roanne, French 1st division) in a tryout with the London Lightning of Canada (https://lfpress.com/2017/10/30/london-lightning-tryouts-turn-up-players-who-could-squeeze-into-defending-champs?fbclid=iwar27mgns4ibqsr1bsd2j25zol_fxrh6seifpefl7kdbrjvfsoh6wpukfoaa), but the team was already made and he didn’t have a spot. Later, his first professional adventure came at the German Regionalliga, where he was selected the best player of the league in the 2018-19 season despite losing in the final for moving up. In that moment, Mensah was working by himself, not having an agent, thing that prevented him from jumping to another category and he played for the same team in the 2019-20 season, adding a 20-0 record when COVID arrived. For the 2020-21 season, he was able to continue in higher German divisions, but he had the opportunity to play in the Portuguese 1st division and took advantage from that opportunity becoming, from the beginning, as a key player in Maia. Playing there, only a hand injury could stop him from December to February preventing him from standing out among the best players in the league, because he was playing with pain and was unable to arm his shot. All of that, caused a drop in his numbers (also in his % from the 3-point line, always above 40% and lower this year), although he recovered for the last stretch of the season averaging 21.5 points, 5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in the last 10 games of the season in Portugal. This last year he has stopped for personal reasons and to obtain a Ghanaian passport, so now he can play at many leagues as a Cotonou player.

REPORT

In his style, he stands out for his outstanding physical-athletic level, the ability to play with changes of rhythm and, above all this features, he stands out for his ability to create his own points from the dribble. He stands out in the game in iso and pick&roll situations and he can score both from the shoot and going to the rim, where he doesn’t hesitate to smash whenever he has the chance. He also forces many free throws (8.5 per game in his last 10 games in Portugal). He scores the FT in very high percentages: 86% in his last season.
