BIOGRAPHY

American big with 2.06 meters tall and 2.16 of wingspan highlighted especially for his mobility, athleticism, intelligence and tactical reading that has played his NCAA for the universities of Texas-El Paso (where he played with Éric Vila) and Northwestern, being eliminated this last year in the 2nd round of the final tournament of the March Madness after losing against UCLA, one of the best universities this year in the country. Therefore, his numbers in his senior year (just about 3 points, 3 rebounds and 1 block per game) do not reflect his real contribution to play at a professional level in European Basketball, where we’re sure he could easily go even above the figures of Texas-El Paso (UTEP) where, in a team also with several outside scorers, Verhoeven averaged better stats of almost 7 points, 5 rebounds and 1 block in 24 minutes per game. He is the son of a player with a WNBA background and we are working to get him a Dutch passport in the near future.

REPORT

In his style, Verhoeven stands out mainly for his physical skills, mobility and tactical reading, things that allow him to be an important player for switching defenses, being able to defend any player from the point guard position to the center position due to his quick legs. He’s very quick and smart in help defenses and excellent in defending one-on-one situations as well as the pick and roll. In the post, he’s able to handle heavier players and, in offense, he’s a player with technical ability and resources to have a much more important role than he has had in the NCAA. As it is, Verhoeven is a talented player in the post, where he shows an important variety of moves to finish and an interesting ability to finish with good percentages and effectively with a hook shot by turning over his left shoulder. In addition, he shows an excellent reading in roll situations, breaking other guys due to his speed and finishing with advantage in many situations. He’s a good finisher, he fights for second opticions. He’s working on his mid-range shooting, where he’s already solid and, with more shooting volume, this skill would allow him to evolve to the Power Forward. Very good passer, especially in situations from low post to open shooters and from high post to cuts, showing above average numbers in assists for his position.
